How do I deal with Golems?

Weapon ineffective, high damage reductions, elemental resistances and magic immune to boot?!
No doubt you've encountered one of these formidable adversaries and taken notice of their immunities. And rightly so, as golems are not to be taken "lightly" (pun intended). They exist in all colors and shapes, making it even harder to find a good way to deal with them. So let's skip to the facts: the golemtable and the conclusion.

You read the golemtable (below) like you would read any other table. It lists their most important characteristics, but it's not complete, because unimportant golems were left out (like lesser clay golems, golems from the Golem Manual and some friendly/neutral keygolems), but it is complete in a sense of "this is what you'll be facing and might have problems with". Exceptions to a more common type of golem are aligned to the right and written below the more common version. E.g. KPGOL04 has some other resistances than most Iron Golems, hence it forms an exception. Note that you will probably not even see all of these while playing. The developers probably forgot to tidy their list of creature files.
JUGJUG01 and JUGJUG02 are obviously meant as a developer's joke.

Move the cursor over the top row or the left column to see a legend or creature codes respectively. If you don't see any explanatory text, then your browser isn't totally CSS compliant. You can check the legend below the table or switch to another browser.

So there you have it: a big ol' ugly table. Enjoy!

Conclusion

As you can see in the golemtable, the highest enchantment level of a weapon you'll need to kill golems is +3. Also, resistance to Crushing damage is always the lowest of all its weapon damage resistances.

So next time you see a golem, get out your crushing weapons of at least +3 enchantment, like the Flail of the Ages or Crom Faeyr. Don't bother with magic, unless you have HLAs.
